Connecting to the FileMaker Server
First - Register with Web New
As part of SED, you should also register with Webnew to take advantage of Filemaker accounts, filesharing and other systems linked to your Kerberos/AD account. When registered, you will get a message that your account will be ready in 24 hours. 15 minutes is more common.
Connecting From Outside BU
If you are connecting from outside BU, you must run the VPN first.
With Your Web Browser
Please note: You should use IE or FireFox. Safari is not recommended.
The Web Browser interface is nice because you do not need FileMaker, but you can only edit the data, not the database structure, layouts, and scripts.
Click on http://sed-fm.bu.edu. Login with your Kerberos username and password. Then select the database you want to use.
Sometimes a database needs to be adjusted to work well over the web.
From FileMaker Program
You need to be using FileMaker 7 or above. Earlier versions should not be used.
Click on File -> Open Remote.
If sed-fm is listed, click on it. If not, click View -> Favorite Hosts, and then Add. Add sed-fm.bu.edu as a server. Then click on it.
Enter your Kerberos username and password. Then select the database you want to use. You may need to enter your password again. We are working on this issue.
