Mass Email

In an effort to streamline the process of sending mass emails, we would like to alert you to two main procedures (and one helpful hint) that have been established.

Faculty/staff emails

If you have an email that you feel needs to be sent to all faculty and/or all staff, please forward the email to Amy Slate (aslate@bu.edu). I will see that the email is sent in a timely manner. In my absence, you may forward the email to Noreen Guy (nguy@bu.edu) or Jackie Boyle (boylej@bu.edu). We reserve the right to not forward any email that we do not feel is appropriate for distribution. Please be aware that if you use email distribution lists that you have created there is a good chance that they are inaccurate.

Student emails

Information can be sent to student groups including conference notices, meeting announcements, job/volunteer opportunities and class offerings. However, in an effort to limit the amount of individual correspondence “flooding” student’s inboxes we hope to streamline all announcements into one monthly newsletter.

The SED Newsletter will go out the 1st of the month or 1st workday thereafter. There will be two formats, one for undergraduates and one for graduate students. Both will be distributed to staff and faculty. If you would like an announcement included, please send the request to Jackie Boyle (boylej@bu.edu) with “newsletter” in the subject line. In her absence, these emails can be sent to Amy Slate (aslate@bu.edu). Announcements should be received at least three days before the 1st. Any announcement not received by this deadline will be included in the following month's newsletter, individual emails will not be sent. Please write up a clear message that gives all basic information (who, what, where, when and how) and contains contact information (email or phone number) if a student would like to seek additional information.

Responding to emails

When responding to any of the mass emails that are sent, please be aware that if you simply click "reply", you are sending email to the person who actually sent the message (Amy or Jackie) and not necessarily the creator of the message. It would be very helpful to us (and save space in our inboxes) if you would email any comments or questions directly to the creator of the message or the contact person that is given in the body of the message.
